The three chambered
kiln was built and fired at the
International Ceramics Festival 2003 at Aberystwyth.
A prototype was built and fired just before the festival
and some adjustments and improvements were incorporated
into the ICF 03 kiln.
The climbing kiln is a completely new design, using
fire-bricks, insulating-bricks and ceramic fibre. The
first chamber being a down-draught kiln fired with LPG
until near the top temperature when soda wood is added.
The second and third chamber are cross draught, both
fired with wood.
